What Inspired the STEM Journey?
Ramatoulie’s journey into STEM was ignited by a Girls in ICT conference in 9th grade, where she was inspired by pioneering women in the field. Her interest deepened in 10th grade when a teacher introduced her to technology, sparking a passion that led her to found SmileAfric Bookings – a pioneering travel technology company in The Gambia.
Significant Achievements in STEM
Ramatoulie’s most significant achievement is the founding of SmileAfric Bookings, aimed at addressing Gambia’s tourism revenue challenges. This venture empowers Gambians in the travel industry, promotes domestic tourism, and provides opportunities for skilled youth, countering issues like unemployment and illegal migration.
Overcoming Challenges in STEM
Throughout her tech journey, Ramatoulie received support from male colleagues, maintaining positive relationships without tension or disagreement. Despite being in leadership roles since high school, she effectively communicates and resonates with male colleagues, showcasing her ability to thrive in male-dominated environments.
